Useful Souvenir?
26 September 2009 / Jem Yoshioka / DreamshedSince I had my junk revelation I'm trying a different approach to the way I appreciate objects, and that is to actually use them. I'm discovering it's making the objects much more valuable than it ever would have if I had left it pristine, kept only for the sake of keeping.
I didn't intend to ever use this eraser, but its use came about when I couldn't find my #1 eraser and this one was still on hand. At first the nicks and chunks and marks on it irked me, being so different from my typical appreciation method. But I've just hit a turning point with it, I now am liking it much more than I ever would have had I left it alone.
While I will now be watching my little piece of Musee Granet erode before me, that's exactly what's cool about it. It'll erode my way, with my influence. It is now connecting me to that place and moment, and doing it every time I pick it up to wreck it just that little bit more.
